Unemployment in April is at 12%. The notes to the Istat (seasonally adjusted data and provisional). It is a historical peak, the highest level both from the monthly series (January 2004) that the quarterly, launched in the first quarter of 1977 as many as 36 years ago.
The unemployment rate of young people between 15 and 24 instead reaches 41.9% (from 35.9% in the first quarter of 2012) in the first quarter of 2013. Again Istat emphasizes that this is the all-time high on a trend basis. The growth has spread to all regions and mainly concerns the male component. In southern regions, more than half of youth labor force (employed and unemployed) is looking for work, with values of 51.2% for males between 15 and 24 years and 52.8% for young women.
In April, the employed are 22 million 596 thousand, a decrease of 0.1% compared to March (-18 thousand units) and 1, 6% on an annual basis (-373 thousand). The employment rate is equal to 56.0%, down 0.1 percentage points in comparison conjunctural and 0.9 points compared to twelve months earlier.
